Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Feel As Though Everyone Has Read But Me

Top Ten Tuesday: the weekly meme hosted by the fabulous ladies at The Broke and the Bookish.

1. Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins - This one isn't even out yet!  And speaking of, does anyone know why this book’s being released on a THURSDAY?  It’s so odd.  ....plus I was hoping to get it next Tuesday when I’ll be in Grand Rapids.

2.  Ten Things We Did (And Probably Shouldn’t Have) by Sarah Mlynowski - I’ve been wanting to since it came out, but I finally got a copy from the library yesterday!  I almost bought it last week but ended up with All These Things I've Done instead.

3. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern - Well, other than the fact that the author is apparently Valentine’s sister, I keep hearing good things about this!  Magical realism and 19th century circuses and magicians - it sounds right up my alley. The lovely Maggie gave me a Starbucks code to get it from iTunes, but it’s only the first part.  I’m so getting my hands on the whole thing soon.

4. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor - This is another one that I’ve seen tons of good reviews for.  I have a partial copy from NetGalley that I’m enjoying, but I’m dreading the end!

5. The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson - There are so many books coming out that I’ve seen reviews everywhere for and I can’t wait to read!  Thankfully this one’s out today, but I probably won’t be visiting a book store until next week.  I suppose this meme proves my TBR pile doesn’t need to be bigger.

6. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson - The whole Milennium Trilogy even.  This book was even at my family’s cottage and all my aunts, uncles and younger cousins were talking about it.  I got a copy for my Kindle for like $5 last summer, but... I keep hearing all about the violence and I’m kind of a wuss.

7. Waterfall by Lisa Tawn Bergen - And one that’s in my TBR pile but keeps getting pushed farther down.  Everyone’s been talking about the whole trilogy, and it's time travel so I'm intrigued!  I got it for free for the Kindle, but it's lost in the TBR category.

8. The Vespertine by Saundra Mitchell - I haven’t been able to get my hands on a copy!  And it’s still in the ‘new books’ section at the library so I can’t request it.  Siiiiiigh.  One day.

9. Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes - The jacket cover on this sounds awesome.  The reviews I’ve read for it make it sound fantastic.  And yet there's something about Barnes' writing that turns me off.

10. Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn - I had this out of the library earlier this summer and ended up losing it then returning it before I could read it.  I’ve seen so much love for it though, and it seems like everyone I know was enthralled by it.

Are there any of these that you think I definitely should promote to the top of my TBR pile right away?  Or any that you have strong feelings on either way?

  1. As I've said to others: No shame for books that haven't released yet. :) Great choices, though. There have been so many awesome books this month that it's hard to keep up.

  2. @Kathy You're so right. September's been this bonanza of amazing releases, and we're all just running to catch up! Which doesn't so much help that TBR pile, but it's a lot of fun.

I'm a huge fan of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Highly recommend it. The others are pretty new for me to get to. I'm way behind on my to read list right now, but those are some great picks!

  5. I think I know what's in store for me when I read Wheel of Time. Malazan is absolutely mind-blowing and revolutionary so far, though I'm going to try and read WoT acknowledging it's role as "early" fantasy.

The Night Circus promises to be a good read, and it seems to be taking the book blogging community by storm!

Funny how you pass off Stieg because of violence, but you can stomach Erikson. :P Personally, I am a sucker for that kind of gritty, no-holds-barred realism.

  6. I haven't read any of these either! I'm dying for Smoke and Bone, 10 Things, and Book of Dares. Awesome list. :) Hopefully, both of us can read all these books soon.

  7. I can't wait to read Night Circus. I'm buying it for my mother for her birthday, so hopefully I'll get to read it soon after.

  8. Ooh, I'm excited for Night Circus. And I haven't read Girl of Fire & Thorns yet either.

I really loved Lola though. And Daughter of Smoke & Bone is exquisite. Two of my favorites this year!

  9. I haven't read a single book on this list! Most of them are in my TBR pile though! So many books, so little time! Night Circus in particular has been all anybody can talk about lately, so I'm really curious to read it!

    My Top 10 Tuesday!

  10. Many of your books are books I still hope to read that are newer. My list has a lot of books that are older books I missed out on.

  11. I really should have put The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo on my list, as well......

  12. I haven't read quite a few of those either so don't feel bad. I haven't read Lola yet either but I see it on blogs all the time. Thankfully it comes out next week!

I'm really excited for Lola as well, especially because I loved Anna and the French Kiss.

You've got some great books on this list -- some of which I am now dying to check out.

  14. I am dying to read Lola! I'm so excited for it. I have it on pre-order. I actually didn't enjoy Raised by Wolves, it was pretty bland.

  15. Yes! I haven't read Ten Things We Did, either. Forgot about that one.

I've read Dash & Lily's Book of Dares though, and wasn't impressed, sadly. So don't feel too bad about missing out.

As for the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I keep reading mixed reviews, so I haven't bothered.

    Nice list!

  16. I've read only The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (it was good, but definitely lots of violence & not an easy read) & Dash & Lily's Book of Dares which I enjoyed it a lot! I tried reading The Vespertine, but I just couldn't get into it & I gave up & that's something I rarely do...

  17. The Millennium trilogy is on my list, too, but I'd love to read some other books from your list, too.

  18. Except for Lola and Dash & Lily I haven't read anything on your list either. I liked D&L quite a bit (I used to live in NYC for 14 years, so that helps). Have you read Amy & Roger's Epic Detour? It's got a Levithan/Cohn vibe, but it's my Morgan Matson.

  19. I have only read 3 on your list - Dash & Lily, Dragon Tattoo, & Waterfall. You MUST dig Waterfall out of the pile! I read it in 2 days and am currently working on Torrent, the 3rd in the series. I have also seen The Night Circus everywhere! Here's my list.

  20. I felt pretty meh about Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I am so excited about Night Circus though. I just got my copy in the mail today.

Come check out my list at The Scarlet Letter.

  21. So, I heard today that THE NIGHT CIRCUS is a little overrated which makes me sad because I was planning on reading it eventually... guess I won't feel sooo disappointed now that I don't have time to read them.

Actually, now that I look at your list again, I notice that I haven't read ANY of these books either. I guess we both have some fun reading ahead of us :) Happy Tuesday!
